Blister Prevention: Walk Without Worries
On a nice summer day, it’s good to get outside and do some walking, especially if you’re on vacation and want to see the sights. There is no quicker way to ruin your fun, though, than getting blisters on your feet, making walking a pain. However, with some helpful blister prevention tips, you can keep your feet comfy and enjoy those walking tours everybody keeps going on about.
First of all, be sure to wear socks. They provide a barrier between your skin and shoes. Synthetic moisture-wicking ones are a good choice since they help keep your feet dry. Some socks even have Teflon in them specifically designed to protect against blisters.
Before you slip your socks on, though, apply some powder or deodorant on your feet, to minimize blister-causing friction. A thin layer is all you need.
If it’s hot outside—which summers in Palm Desert usually are—keep hydrated. Drinking a lot of water keeps your body, including your feet, from swelling. Swollen feet do not fit as well in your shoes and will rub against them.
Finally, believe it or not, if you have certain areas on your feet that are prone to blisters, duct tape might be the answer! By placing duct tape over the susceptible spot, it creates a barrier on your foot that keeps it blister-free.
