New Year’s Resolution – Caring for Feet
What kind of New Year’s will you have this year? Maybe a quiet game night at home with the family sounds great. If you are looking for a hopping place to be and love some old school music, check out Stayin’ Alive – A Celebration of the Bee Gees at the Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella, CA.
There are some lines in the song, “Stayin’ Alive” that say, “got the wings of heaven on my shoes, I’m a dancing man and I just can’t lose.” We know, you are probably humming the tune to yourself right now! The truth is, without good shoes, you may not be able to keep on dancing and you just might lose. Foot care is so important and it may be time to shelve the typical New Year’s resolutions and put your feet back on top of the list.
Can we give you a couple of our favorite tips that we love to share with our patients? The first is that your footwear may really need to go. We all have our favorite go-to shoes but if they don’t fit well or aren’t supporting your feet, you could be at risk for all kinds of aches, pains or injuries. Your feet have a unique structure and may need unique shoes. People with flat feet, high arches, bunions, and hammertoes, for example, need to wear shoes that accommodate that particular condition. The second tip: please don’t ignore foot pain. We are just a phone call away, so make it a resolution to contact us as soon as any new symptom comes up. We have seen cases where patients ignored foot pain only to find out that they actually had a fracture, or that it was indicative of a more serious underlying condition. Pay attention to changes in your skin and nails and stop problems before they get worse.
Staying alive and well will be much easier with healthy feet. Make your foot health a priority in the New Year. If you would like more information or are in need of diagnosis and treatment of a foot problem, please contact Harvey R. Danciger, DPM.
