Tackling Athlete’s Foot Fungus
Fitness is pretty big around here, and it’s probably safe to say that the majority of people in the area have a membership to some type of workout facility. That’s great, since belonging to a gym can provide plenty of benefits. The problem is, it can also provide the perfect breeding ground for athlete’s foot fungus!
Fungi love hanging out in warm, moist environments, like sweaty socks and shoes, locker room showers, pool decks, sauna floors, towels and mats – pretty much everything you can find in a gym! So, if you’re not careful, you can get athlete’s foot along with your 6 pack abs!
Symptoms start with a red, itchy rash, typically between the toes. It can burn, sting, peel, crack, and even blister – and it can spread like wildfire! Luckily, some treatments for athlete’s foot can be found over-the-counter, so when you leave the gym, you can head straight for the store! Antifungal medications come in a variety of forms, including ointments and lotions, however sprays and powders have the added bonus of being able to treat your shoes as well as your feet!Of course, sometimes athlete’s foot fungus can be stubborn, so you may need prescription-strength topical or oral medication to clear things up. If your trip to the pharmacy didn’t provide you with any relief, make a trip to see Dr. Harvey Danciger instead. Call our Palm Desert, CA office for an appointment by dialing (760) 568-0108. In the meantime, make sure you keep those shower shoes on and don’t borrow towels!
