Q How invasive is the average foot surgery?
When conservative treatment options either stop helping or are just not enough to bring full health back to a foot or ankle, surgical intervention often becomes necessary. The type and nature of the foot surgery depends on the severity of the condition or injury. At our podiatric office in Palm Desert, CA we strive to make each and every surgery as minimally invasive as possible.
A hammertoe surgery, for example, may simply involve realigning the toe or fusing the toe joint together. A bunion surgery may be a bit more invasive if the protruding bone needs to be shaved down and the entire big toe joint realigned. Surgery for an acute injury such as a ruptured tendon could be much more complicated, as the tendon needs to be carefully repaired. Each case is different, and the surgery process will vary depending on the severity of the problem.
If you require surgery, it is nothing to fear. Dr. Danciger will choose the appropriate method and guide you through the process every step of the way.
