Q Is surgery for an ingrown toenail painful?
Many patients come into the office complaining of painful ingrown toenails. If certain types of conservative care is not affording the patient continued relief, then surgery is an option. The majority of patients are apprehensive about the surgery because of stories they have heard from patients who had the procedures done by their Family Doctor. Podiatric Physicians do this surgery all the time and most patients relate minimal discomfort or no discomfort after the procedure. Sometimes, they will take a Tylenol at night if they think they will have pain, but that is usually the only time.
