When To Call A Doctor
Dr. Danciger is happy to help anyone suffering from any kind of foot pain. Most conditions will only get worse if they're ignored. "Walking off" an injury is not the best way to deal with chronic pain; it will actually make lots of conditions or injuries worse. Having the assurance of a professional's opinion never hurts. Patients should call a doctor if any one of the following is occuring:
-Strange transformations to the skin on the foot or to nails.
-Severe cracking, scaling, or peeling on the heel or foot.
-Continual pain in your feet or ankles.
-Problematic blisters affecting the feet.
There are signs of bacterial infection, including:
-Redness, aggravation, swelling, increased pain, heightened sensitivity or increased temperature.
-Red streaks extending from the affected area.
-Discharge or pus from an area on the foot.
-Symptoms affecting the foot and ankle that persist beyond 2 weeks after occurrence and do not change with over-the-counter medications.
-Symptoms spreading from original area to new areas in close proximity. Example: starts in nail bed, spreads to sides of nail, then to skin surrounding the nail.
Other reasons to see a doctor:
-Thickening toenails that cause pain or discomfort.
-Heel pain accompanied by a fever, redness (sometimes warmth), or numbness
-Tingling sensations in the heel
-Heel pain even when not standing up or putting pressure on feet.
-Pain that is persists despite treatment such as ice or over-the-counter painkillers (such as aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
-Diabetics with poor circulation who develop Athlete's Foot.
