There are moments in life when it is important to look beyond yourself and engage in something that helps others. When it involves exercise, then it helps you too! We want to highlight a great opportunity if you live around Palm Desert, CA. Coming up on October 12th, 2013 is the Paint El Paseo Pink Walk. The Desert Cancer Foundation puts on this event that saw such success last year as it helped more than 800 women in Coachella Valley who faced diagnosis of breast cancer.
Whether it is a walk, 5K, marathon or nature trail hike with your family, don’t forget to start with your feet. All of your time and efforts may be in vain if you end up stuck half way through with throbbing feet. Your shoes are an essential part of the whole plan, especially if what you are doing will involve some miles. Check your old running shoes a few weeks before you head out. Shoes wear down over time and lose their cushioning and support. If the soles are worn and the shoes lean over when placed on a flat surface, it may time for a new investment. Find a pair that fit your feet comfortably and accommodate for any abnormality you may have such as flat feet, high arches, bunions or hammertoes. A little tip – don’t walk out of the store if they don’t feel great from the start!
Getting excited about being a part of a race causes many to take on more than they are ready for. If you aren’t a runner, a 10K two weeks from now is not going to be feasible and will only put you at risk for injury. If you have signed up for a walk or race, come into our office and make sure your feet and footwear are up to the task. If the end of a race leaves you with foot pain or an injury, we can help there too. Contact Dr. Harvey Danciger today with any questions or concerns or to make an appointment.
