The answer is no. Athlete's Foot, or tinea pedis, is a condition that is common on the foot and in between the toes. There may be redness, scaling, itching, blisters, fissures associated with this problem. It is caused by a fungus and needs to be treated with antifungal medication not antibiotics.
All of the symptoms noted above can be caused from other diseases which are treated differently than tinea pedis. Various types of dermatitis can present with the same symptoms. Contact dermatitis can mimic this. Psoriasis can have similar features. Eczematous dermatitis can as well.
It is important to have a definite diagnosis for treatment. At times a biopsy is needed to determine the exact disease process.
