There are times when you can’t avoid being on your feet all day. Waiters, service workers, construction workers, and grocery clerks are in occupations where there usually is no choice but to stand all day.
Whether you have a job that demands it, you have played tourist all day, or you have walked the mall with your kids, there are ways to ease the aches and pains that can develop. One of the best things you can do if you have pain after standing all day is to take a look at the shoes you were wearing. Feet are designed to withstand a great amount of stress, but a shoe with little support and cushioning will lead to pain and possible injury. Wear shoes that fit your feet well. Avoid high heels, and if you have a job that requires standing, talk to Dr. Danciger about how a pair of custom orthotics can dramatically ease your symptoms.
When it is too late and the aches have begun, get off your feet. A little elevation will help to reduce swelling and a warm foot soak can ease sore muscles. A golf ball or a frozen water bottle is a great tool to massage feet as you roll it under your arches.
