Why is my foot scaly and peeling?

There are several reasons why your foot might be peeling or scaling:

1) Sun/Dry Heat

If your feet have had excessive exposure to the sun, or if you live in a place with really dry heat, the skin on your feet can become scaly and start to peel.

2) Athlete's foot

Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection and a common symptom of this condition is scaling or peeling on the feet. It can happen between the toes or on the soles of the feet. Anti-fungal medications can help clear up a case of Athlete’s foot but you should seek more aggressive treatment if it is not going away or is getting worse.

3) Psoriasis

Psoriasis is another condition that may be causing your scaling and peeling. It is a skin disease that causes itchy, red patches of skin. These areas can be scaly and peeling as well. It is actually an immune system problem and flare-ups can be triggered by several different factors.

4) Eczema

Eczema is a form of skin inflammation that can also result in dry, red and scaly patches of skin.

There are many treatment options available for all of these conditions but if the scaling and peeling is severe, seek treatment with Dr. Danciger as soon as possible to relieve symptoms and prevent it from happening in the future.
