Will Cutting a V in my Ingrown Toenail Cure it?

"Today I want to talk about ingrown toenails and the common myth that cutting a “V” in the end of the toenail will cure an ingrown nail. It’s totally a myth because the ingrown toenail, if this were a toe, the nail grows from back here by the cuticle. So if the nail is curved too far to one side, when it grows out it has no place to go except in the skin. So cutting a “V” in the nail will not cause the nail to grow in any further. If this were your nail and we cut a “V”, which I’m showing here, at the end of the toenail, you can see that I can’t bring the nail inward. That’s why, on a rigid nail, cutting a “V” will not take care of it. The nail needs to be removed on the side to make the toenail narrower, all the way back underneath the cuticle and the root, so when the nail grows out, that part of the nail doesn’t grow anymore, and then you won’t have an ingrown toenail.
